VALSESIA

WHY IN VALSESIA

Valsesia stands for canoeing. It’s the most well known canoeing district in Italy and one of the most popular canoeing destinations in Europe. The Sesia River is definitely one of the longest and most varied stretches of white rivers in Italy. Balmuccia-Varallo, the so called “race course”, is sheer enjoyment for canoeists. The Sesia River is joined by the most challenging torrents, very well known to top level canoeists: Mastallone, Sermenza, Sermenzino, Egua, Sorba and Gronda.

From mid-April to mid-July hundreds and hundreds of canoeists from Italy and all over Europe flock to Valsesia for not just canoeing but rafting, hydrospeed and canyoning. Water events are organized by six commercial organizations: Eddyline at Campertogno, H2o at Crevola, Hidronica at Scopa, Monrosa at Balmuccia, Rafting Valsesia at Vocca and River Action at Valmaggia.
Tourists in their thousands take up the challenge of the white waters, relying on these organizations who have enhanced the image of Valsesia as “the valley of water sport”. It was not by chance that the European championships of canoe and kayak in 2001 and the world championships in 2002 took place here. http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valsesia

WHY AT CAMPERTOGNO

Campertogno is a small village in Valsesia with a population of about 200. A village that makes a living from mountain and river tourism. Campertogno would like to be seen as the canoeing capital of Valsesia, thanks to its camping site Il gatto e la volpe and the Canoe School (Eddyline), which are a meeting point for the best canoeists in Europe between April and June - British French, German, Dutch and Americans meet at Campertogno to enjoy Valsesia with gusto and passion.
This is why the local Council has decided to concede the beautiful Town Theatre - Centro Polifunzionale “Fra Dolcino” for the organization of a film show dedicated to the sport of canoeing by river

WHY IN MAY

THE VALSESIA CANOA FILM FESTIVAL is held in May because it’s the peak time for water in rivers and torrents. This is when canoeing takes off. It’s the ideal time for the canoe. So what could be better than to be in the Valley of canoeists, go down the rapids together, join a festival that recounts life in a canoe and dine together while telling each other stories of adventures on rivers around the world?

VALSESIA CANOA FILM FESTIVAL takes place over two days:
  • Saturday 22nd May 2010 (afternoon or evening, depending on how many films will be shown)
  • Sunday 23rd May 2010 (afternoon)
